History

Founded in 1884 and steeped in history, Formby Golf Club is considered one of the top links courses in the world. This stunning course offers amazing scenery, surprising tranquillity and a charming clubhouse. Nestled on England’s majestic Golf Coast, near three Open Championship venues, it is the perfect addition to any tour.

Formby has hosted countless championships, including the Amateur Championship and Curtis Cup. Matteo Manassero became the youngest winner of the Amateur Championship here at just 16 years of age. In 1984, the club’s centenary year, Jose Maria Olazabal edged out Colin Montgomerie to take the Amateur crown.

Formby is a true championship links course unlike any other. Running through the mature dunes and pinewoods of the stunning Sefton coast, this course will challenge you at every shot. A combination of well-protected greens, heather rough and challenging tee shots means Formby is a course of magnificent contrasts.

Formby has been remodelled by the game’s great designers over the years, including James Braid, Harry Colt and Donald Steel. The traditional clubhouse offers unparalleled comfort and relaxation and the refurbished lounge and dining room provide unmissable panoramic views of the course for added “wow” factor.
