Kingsbarns Golf Links

Kingsbarns Golf Links

Kingsbarns Golf Links is justifiably regarded as one of the best links courses in the world. Located on the east coast of Scotland, seven miles southeast of St Andrews, Kingsbarns in its current guise is a relatively new addition to the ancient links courses. But don’t let that fool you, this is a course steeped in golfing history.

Golf has been played over the links of Kingsbarns since 1793 when the local merchants and lairds formed the Kingsbarns Golfing Society. The links was ploughed for farmland from the mid-nineteenth century onwards until Open Champion and course designer Willie Auchterlonie revived it in 1922 with a nine-hole course.

Kingsbarns Golf Links

Kingsbarns was commandeered by the military at the outbreak of the Second World War and reverted to pasture until golf was resurrected on Kingsbarns Links at the turn of the millennium. The result is a stunning true links that commands imperious views of the North Sea from virtually every corner of the course.

Kingsbarns Golf Links takes full advantage of its two kilometres of coastal views. With its characterful humps and hollows, you would never know that this is the only new course to be built on links land for more than 70 years. If there is one course that is guaranteed to make you fall in love with links golf it is Kingsbarns.
