History
Ready for play in July 1913, The Addington quickly became one of the finest heathland golf courses in the London area. A major restoration over the last few years has worked to revive the original heathland design by removing overgrown trees, restoring lost sightlines, reclaiming green areas, and reinstating design intent. The Addington’s terrain is defined by sandy heathland, heather, bracken, pines, and silver birch—offering serene inland links-style golf remarkably close to London. Often described as idiosyncratic, heroic, characterful, it features dramatic visuals, roller-coaster holes, vivid bunkering, and rickety bridges—creating a distinct and memorable playing experience. In summary, The Addington Golf Club is a living testament to early 20th-century design—born of vision, tested by time, and reborn through restoration. It remains an extraordinary, atmospheric gem on London’s doorstep.
