History

1897 marks the birth of Saunton Golf Club with a modest nine-hole course laid out across Braunton Burrows. By 1906, it expanded to 12 holes, and by 1908, it became an 18-hole course. Golf Monthly places the East Course in the UK & Ireland Top 100, praising its challenging design, dune tessellation, and fair yet demanding nature. It is the hardest of Saunton’s two courses and is often viewed as one of England’s finest seaside links. Saunton Sands East Course is a timeless masterpiece rooted in early 20th-century design, weathered by war, and restored into a modern classic. Its thoughtful layout, tournament pedigree, and striking natural setting make it one of England’s most celebrated seaside golf experiences.
