History
Gullane Golf Club is one of Scotland’s oldest and most celebrated golfing institutions. The course is in East Lothian, Scotland — in the heart of the country’s famed “Golf Coast”, it overlooks the Firth of Forth, with views of Edinburgh, Fife, and the Bass Rock. Golf has been played on Gullane Hill and the surrounding links for centuries, potentially as far back as the 17th century or earlier. The game was played informally by locals, including farmers and tradesmen, long before any organized club existed. Gullane Golf Club was officially founded in 1882, the original course, now known as Gullane No. 1, was laid out over natural links terrain that had long been used for golf, it was designed largely by nature, with refinements from key figures like Old Tom Morris and Willie Park Jr and is renowned for its challenging layout, elevation changes (especially Gullane Hill), and beautiful views. Gullane No. 2 was opened in 1898 and shares much of the same high-quality link’s land as No. 1. Gullane No. 3 was opened in 1910 and is a lot shorter and more forgiving, but still a true links experience and a course that every golfer will love as its not all about length off the tee as many modern courses are, we love this course.
